UNLESS someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
It’s not.

Our Managing Partner
Hi! I’m Jim MacLennan, the Founder of Maker Turtle LLC and Talking Tree Ventures.
I’ve had an interesting career in the corporate world – over 35 years of experience in a variety of business models and markets, translating strategic drivers into tactical plans and tangible results. I’ve learned a ton about business in many industries, and traveled the world to build engaged teams and strong businesses with innovative products.
I left the corporate world in 2019, and since then I have been writing, speaking, and consulting with a variety of clients, primarily focused on innovation at the top-line, driving revenue growth that creates long-term value. I’ve also been exposed to the world of Venture Capital, leading the Advisory Services function at VentureDNA, an established venture capital firm from Chicago.
So … What’s With the Trees?
Working on Sustainability projects over the last few years led to some self-reflection and an idea, about making the world a better place for coming generations.
Ok, my grandkids have had a big impact on these ideas – they are awesome, and I really want to see them enjoy the forests just like I did, growing up in Southern California.
I remember camping in the woods at all times of the year (brrrr) – tons of fun. But mostly, I remember the wildfires – ash raining down on the playground at school, friends seeing their houses burn down in 60 seconds, and digging a neighborhood out from a catastrophic mudslide.
There’s a lot of beauty, danger, and mystery in the woods. And we need to protect what we have.
What’s your why?
I believe the best way to start is by understanding the goal. For my part, I want to help build businesses that use data and technology to solve serious challenges and create great opportunities. My professional career has given me skills and exposure to ideas and resources that can drive success – and so I’m dialing in my focus, re-branding to Talking Tree Ventures.
I’m grateful for the experiences I have had, I want to give back … and I think this a great way to do it. Care to join me on this journey?
